Homestead Exemption

Over 7,000 people in Ross County receive the Homestead Exemption, which allows low-income seniors, disabled persons and their surviving spouses to shield $25,000 of their home’s value from taxation. In addition, disabled veterans and their surviving spouses may be eligible for double the regular Homestead if they meet certain requirements (read to the bottom for more details). The relevant application forms below must be submitted to our office by December 31st of the first year for which you seek the exemption.

Disabled veterans and their surviving spouses are eligible for double the regular Homestead (i.e. they may shield $50,000 of their home’s value from taxation) if either of the following applies:

  1. The veteran has a permanent and total disability rating (100%) from the VA as a result of a service-connected disability or a combination of service-connected disabilities; or
  2. The veteran has a disability rating less than 100%, but he or she s compensated at 100% based on individual employability as a result of a service-connected disability or a combination of service-connected disabilities.
